Molly James is minstrel for the modern heart. Her Oakland based 7 piece band features lush vocal harmonies and arrangements that drink from the headwaters of Joni Mitchell, Lake Street Dive, California Honey Drops, and Jenny Lewis. Molly’s jazzy folk soul sound is just the right blend of tender hearted witchy truth telling and “let’s party!” After teaching herself to play the ukulele at 23, songwriting became an outlet for making sense of the world. Her songs explore the love, grief, and joy of an open hearted life with earworm pop sensibility.

Chuck is the playful interweaving of two unique voices into one unified, heart-centered whole. Lou Veramessa and Maxwell Maynard share their original compositions which range from folk, to jazz, to rnb. All of the joy and depth of presence that they have cultivated over their years as romantic partners, co-directors of a community choir, and bandmates, is put into the writing, arranging, and especially performing of this music. Don’t be surprised if the show is punctuated by moments of improvisation, theatricality, or community members coming up onstage!  When their powers combine within a larger ensemble, they go by the name Muwa.

DJ 2BZ has emerged as one of the premiere DJs in our community. Their heavy hitting beats and joyous drops create the soundscape of celebration we all yearn for! Bring your friends and find something to smile about at a dance floor near you!

Music is medicine, apply liberally! Molly’s soulfully rich voice greets you with open arms and a nod of recognition: we’re in this together. With ukulele in hand, she offers music that speaks to the dynamism of our human experience. Joy, grief, family, violence, love, patriarchy; nothing is off limits. With power, humility, and integrity, she sings with a vision toward healing the wounds of our world.

Molly came to music later in life. But her love of words and melody were always with her, a secret dream too precious to speak. But - to quote Anais Nin - "the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” And so, she finally let her petals unfurl.

She created and lead the Bay Area’s feminist-driven 9 Lives Music Collective. She lead the minimalist folk band Tooth and Talon, and then the jazz-dipped Molly James Band. She read her poems and shared her story. And now, she prepares to bring a much nurtured dream to light, as she embarks on her first solo tour! Check out the dates and come on by, summer is the season to witness her bloom in full shine!
